CBCT

What Is Dental CBCT?

Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) is a specialized type of digital imaging that provides 3D views of your child’s teeth, jaw, and facial structures. Unlike traditional X-rays that offer flat, two-dimensional images, CBCT gives us a complete, detailed look from every angle—allowing for precise diagnosis and treatment planning.

When Is CBCT Used?

CBCT is not used routinely and is only recommended when more detailed information is needed, such as:

  • Locating impacted or missing teeth

  • Evaluating jaw growth and facial structure

  • Planning for orthodontic treatment, oral surgery, or dental implants if needed

  • Diagnosing cysts, tumors, or complex infections

  • Assessing airways in children with sleep or breathing concerns

How Does It Work?

During a CBCT scan, your child stands or sits while the machine rotates around their head, capturing hundreds of images in just a few seconds. These images are combined into a 3D model, which the dentist can view from multiple angles to better understand what’s happening beneath the surface.

Is CBCT Safe?

Yes—CBCT uses a very low dose of radiation and is considered safe, especially when used selectively and appropriately. Our team follows strict safety guidelines to ensure your child receives the lowest possible exposure while gaining the valuable diagnostic detail needed for effective care.
